School of College Connections (SCC)
SCC provides both early access to college courses and a supportive environment that helps students succeed through school-wide AVID classes. SCC also provides an introduction to careers in software development and Geographic Information Systems(GIS) through its Information and Communication Technologies Pathway.
Partnership with Mesa Community College
- Legacy course - Beginning sophomore year, students may enroll in one or two Mesa College courses taught on the Kearny campus
- Fast Track - Beginning junior year, Fast Track students take one course a semester at Mesa College with a wide selection of choices
- AVID support while taking college classes
- Early graduation - Since most students complete high graduation requirements in fall semester of their senior year, they can elect to attend Mesa College in the spring full-time.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Courses
These course prepare students to attend a competitive 4-year university after high school. Through the elective course, students receive:
- Guidance completing college applications, financial aid documents, and scholarship applications
- Preparation for college entrance exams - SAT, ACT, and EAP
- Academic and college planning
- Organizational and academic skills for success
Information and Communication Technologies(ICT) Pathway
- All 9th grade students participate in Computer Science Discoveries
- AP Computer Science Principles is offered to those interested in further development of their software development skills
- Capstone Courses in Geographic Information Systems(GIS) allow students to explore how data and mapping software can be used to make life better in our communities
- Students can earn additional college credits (Mesa-CISC 150, Mesa-GISG 110) while completing their ICT coursework at SCC
